Inspired

I am a lazy broad. I like flat boots, slouchy jeans and/or sweaters, sexy sneakers (who ever heard of such a thing) and the whole I'm-so-cool-I-rolled-out-of-bed-and-accidentally-looked-this-hot-without-even-trying-not-even-a-little-bit look. Hence, this above outfit taking today's cake. Hot shit. As is this young lady, and her nifty new blog. I've been stalking...er, I mean, following, Lulu for quite some time. She, among others, is my inspiration for doing this little dog and pony show. I even joined chictopia to ogle her outfits and shamelessly copy her--and others'--outfits. Mwahaha, be afraid. Nah, but seriously, check out her page. It's hot shit, with more to come. Drop crotch is the shiznit. I will not buy more pants, I will not buy more pants, I will NOT BUY MORE PANTS...

History

Since I decided to start this little pet project of mine, (read: give myself shamelessly to my sartorial fascinations) these are some of the pictures I started out with, splashing them on Chictopia in hopes of getting a little guidance, lol. I'll continue to test them out here. Keep watching! Something fun might develop out of this little blogger yet.

Etro, My Love

My new obsession lately is menswear. Though I have an unhealthy amount of premium denim and most of them fit pretty skinny, I like the idea of the slim fit trouser, the oxford shoe, THE perfect blazer. For this, Etro has some super pieces. I went to Etro in Las Vegas while I was there, having seen an ad of theirs in GQ magazine, which is one of my favorites these days (I never used to read magazines; now I can't seem to inhale enough of them--I chalk it up to the pretty colors and the shoes). While there, I met this amazing woman named Sue and ended up talking to her for an hour or more about the store, its style, and Japanese designers among other things. I tried on this AWESOME paisley print silk jacket that had the most amazing details--along with a rather hefty price tag, but I could just imagine it with some slacks and a nice pair of pumps. Apparently, Etro employees get a pair of oxfords just for working there. I don't have a picture of it but it's this awesome plum colored patent wing tip that has just about a 2" heel, but they don't sell the same shoe to customers; rather it's a higher pump. SO well made. The jacket above is the grey version as well as the paisley I tried on; and the thigh high boots, which don't come in a size higher than an 8 apparently, or perhaps not in that store, made me drool for like, 20 minutes. Actually had to close my mouth for fear of ruining the niftiness of the store.

What happens in Vegas...

...ends up on people's blogs. This is my first picture of Vegas. Was an interesting trip. Thought I'd put the pictures up. This was the day after I bought my new hat! Woop! Check out the frumpy sweater. It was freaking freezing on the strip and for some reason the weather could NOT get it together. It was near 80 the first night, then it was 60s and windy for the next 2 days and the day I was leaving--of course--it was beautiful outside! Absolutely perfect weather that I barely got any chance to enjoy because I was exhausted. There's so much to do! The best part of the trip had to be Zumanity, the adult show of Cirque du Soleil. If you ever get a chance, GO.

Blazer

I've had this jacket for ages, but never busted it out till today; beautiful in New York and just the right temperature to wear with a shirt and some jeans. Layered, just in case because I wasn't feeling too good during my trip to Vegas and haven't really slept since I got back. My immune system is in violent protest right now, to be sure. I don't know what was going on with my leg. It's my 'blog pose', I guess. In case you're wondering what I'm reading, it's a letter regarding an absentee voter registration. Vote good, ladies and germs.
See also: photo of my photographer (or at least his shadow) and his new squirrel. Even the squirrel is into the blog. Nice.

October 15 2008

I look pretty goofy here; lol. I'm still adjusting to having someone stare me down behind a camera. This is one of my favorite, most comfortable dresses. It's totally shapeless and, I think, just long enough to not be trashy, but short enough that it doesn't dwarf me (I'm 5'7" and my photographer is a giant of a man). AND, it's got POCKETS! Pockets are a blessing passed down from the angels, especially when they're on dresses, or in completely useless places. (I always wanted to DIY a shirt with a pocket on the back between the shoulderblades, but alas, I am a lazy brute and it probably ain't gonna happen). But I digress. Please, admire the wet sidewalk, my awkward face, and the niftiness that is my tartan/plain/flannel dress. The hoodie underneath is great because the hood is big enough to cover my whole (and very wet) head. Warmth is sweeeet.

Initiation

This is my very first post on my very first blog...woohoo...Formalities aside, I'm hoping this is as productive as I anticipated. I recall my many days searching through all these blogs/websites/pages/google results, hoping to find stylish men and women whose tastes were aligned with mine. I got tired of seeing what appeared to be the trend-uniforms, and wanted to provide my own take, which is, no doubt, a uniform in itself, but will combine my two new projects: reinventing myself and enjoying my newfound love of clothing--and obsession with shoes!
I was too much of a chickenshit to put anything of my own up. Still am, but I think I'm mature (read: awesome) enough to deal with the flak that will no doubt come with posting my fantastical outfits on the world wide web for (hopefully) lots of folks to comment on. Hey, we'll find out, yeah? I hope, if I may be so bold, to encourage others like myself who do not necessarily fit into the 'fashionista' or 'trendsetter' box but dress as they like, for comfort, for inspiration, for fun and enjoyment.
For those of you even remotely interested, I recently cut off all of my hair, in attempts of going natural, in more ways than one. Used to have a perm. Tomboy that I can be, however, I'm not dedicated enough to blowdry, flatiron, rollerset, curl, etc. my hair on my own. And I never really liked the idea of putting all those chemicals in my hair. Beauty might be pain, but if your body and your brain and screaming bloody murder, chances are, it's NOT good for you. So, any ladies of color out there interested in seeing a young woman 'transition' from a relaxer, or fight with a fro (fun!), enjoy! I know the trouble I had trying to decide to make the big chop but I (sort of) committed and when my hair was lying on the ground, I was terrified! But it was done and I dove headfirst into this new stage of myself. Hopefully this site will satisfy these joint interests and folk will be inspired as I have been to step outside of their comfort zone. Everyone else, enough yammering, enjoy my shoe addiction!
Photo is the view from my old house of the house across the street, post New England snow storm, this past winter. Totally random, but wanted to share.
